Every wanted to make your own levels based on Sonic? Don't have the time or skill to know how to learn how to program with complicated languages? Well, with Sonic Level Creator, making levels based off Sonic the Hedgehog is as easy and pointing and clicking with the mouse.

Sonic Level Creator will allow you to create levels using assets from many of Sonic's classic titles! No need to know how to code. Just select an asset and place it with the mouse and the program does the rest for you. It's that easy! After your done with making your level, you can save it as a separate file so you can let others check out the level you designed.

Origin of the idea

Sonic Level Creator was conceived after Nintendo had showed Mario Maker at E3. Thinking that Sega should make one for Sonic, I searched for one that perhaps Sega or a fan created. In the end, it turned out that some did exists but were no longer available while others were so complicated you might as well just learn how to program your own Sonic game. I wanted a creator that was as easy to use as Mario Maker is touted to be. A simple adding of assets into the screen was all that should be needed. When nothing of this sort of thing appear, I decided to make it a reality.

About the program

Sonic Level Creator is being made with Game Maker Studio Pro as that is one of the more popular types of engines for Sonic fan games. The objective is to allow everybody, from the novice game creator to the experienced game designer, to make their own Sonic levels with the greatest of ease. A mouse and keyboard (along with some imagination) will suffice in creating your desired levels.

Goals

The goal is to take all assets from the classic 16-bit games including Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3, Sonic & Knuckles, CD, and Knuckles Chaotix to allow the player make their dream levels. Not only that but mix and match to create insane creations. You will also be able to edit the assets such as change the color palette and their properties such as make springs launch you higher than the default setting or make Sonic run even faster.

Update: Beta 3 has been released. It's just a few minor changes.

Call to action

THIS PROGRAM IS ON HIATUS! It is unfortunate but there is just not enough interest in the program for me to continue working on it, or at least I don't know if there is interest in it. If this looks like a program you would really like to see come to reality, please tell everyone about it. Let others know and let them spread the word.
