An emulated Sneak Peek. - KiddoCabbusses - 10-29-2014
Today's sneak peek is of The Devious Four Chronicles, a series of ROM hacks developed by metalgearhunter and S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N.
It may be notable that this is a ROM hack submission... and I'll admit I had a delay in setting it up due to circumstances regarding what ROMs the patches were intended for and whatnot.
Therefore, I'm going to jot some quick notes for this hack here for when the time comes for folks to try playing it.
- These patches are all designed for individual Super Mario World (USA region) ROMs. In other words, each patch would go to a separate SMW ROM for whatever "episode" you would want to play.
- For whatever reason the patches require SMC headered ROMs. Since those aren't even common anymore, what I suggest is grabbing the program called Tush off this page here which can check your SNES ROMs for SMC headers and add or remove them when desired.
- Apply the patch to a SMW ROM AFTER the previous step was sorted out using a IPS patch program. Lunar IPS is a popular choice for Windows PC users.
- Last but not least, use the recommended emulator when you can - SMW hacks have historically not been reliable for real-hardware compatibility, and many only work on ZSNES.
In the future rules for ROM hack submissions may be adjusted so that there is as little confusion over how the hack works as possible.

Now then. On the preferred choice of emulators...it is directly coorelated to the standardization of addmusicK and the rejection of hacks on SMWCentral that are broken on bsnes and SNES9X that caused a paradigm shift that aims to help end the days when SMW hacks break on accurate emulators due to different addmusic standards. And keep in mind that some of these hacks (Crater, HR2R) had their development started a few years ago before emulator compatibility became mandatory for all hacks this year submitted on the Central. So I wouldn't say that using your choice of emulators applies for hacks made and accepted before 2014.
And then there is the exception where people not from SMWCental continuing to usr broken music...

Unfortunately I was still dealing with quite an amount of crashes when I was using SNES9X in this video, as is demonstrated.
